My 9-Year Is Building Math Apps… What’s Stopping You Again?
Hey friends, I wanted to share something wild.
My daughter – who still struggles to make her bed – built a fully working math practice app in about 30 minutes.
She did it on a Saturday morning, half-asleep, because she didn’t feel like writing it on paper. It was pretty early in the morning, so I didn’t object.
Forget coding languages, ‘database optimization,’ or whatever other fancy terms you hear. This is about using super-simple, free tools that let you talk to a computer like you’re ordering pizza.
We’re talking about “talking” into your AI, or typing into it, and watching it build your “idea” into a functional software application.
If a 9-year-old can fine-tune an app for her addition and multiplication tables, you can absolutely do this to build a tool for your job, your side hustle, your firm, or just for fun.
Here is the dead-simple, 3-step action plan she used.
The 3-Step Plan to Build a Simple App in 30 Minutes
This whole process is like using a super-powered digital toy box. You don’t need to be an engineer; you just need to know what you want to build.
- Pick Your Digital Building Kit (The ‘No-Code’ Tool)
The biggest secret here is getting the right tool. You are not writing code; you are using a tool that has already written all the complicated stuff for you. Think of it like a set of Legos where the pieces automatically snap together.
Your first job is to pick the right “App Builder.”
- What it is: It’s a website or program that uses pictures, buttons, and menus instead of code. You are just dragging boxes and changing text.
- Our analogy: Imagine you’re using a menu at a sandwich shop. You pick the ‘Quiz App’ template (the bread), the colors (the toppings), and the name (the special sauce). That’s it.
- Action Step: Go find a free ‘no-code app maker’ online. I would suggest starting with ChatGPT or Gemini. Both offer FREE versions that are capable of building apps that would have cost you 6+ figures to build in the days before “no-code app building” with AI.

- Fill Your App With Brainpower (The ‘Fine-Tuning’)
This is where the app actually becomes yours. In the 30-minute test, my daughter spent about 15 minutes on this step: adding the math problems. This is the “fine-tuning” part that turns a general template into a specific, useful tool.
- The Content: She uploaded 20 real math questions that she worked on in her class. I’m talking – clicked a picture of the sheet, and attached it to the thread she was on.
- The Look: She went into the ‘Colors’ menu and changed the background to pink and the buttons to purple. Why? Because she likes pink and purple. It’s that simple. You can upload a picture or change the font with a single click.
- The Logic (Simple): The tool automatically knows: if the user clicks the right answer, a message that says “Correct!” pops up. If they click the wrong one, it says “Try again.”
- Additional Parameters: She wanted to simulate a math test setting, so she asked for a countdown timer, the total test score (10 questions at a time), and the feedback as well.
TIP: Think of AI as a tool that allows you to customize the “internet” to your specific goals, dreams, and personality. That’s what AI really does – gives us the ability to “fuse” your ideas and insights with the power of the internet – all from your phone!
→ Make it personal. Change the greeting screen, the colors, or the interface.
→ Upload a silly photo, an encouraging message, or something else that’s personal to you.
→ Double-check that all your questions/flashcards are correct.
- Push the Big Red Button (The ‘Launch’)
This is the most satisfying step. When you are happy with the way your app looks and the questions you put in, the builder gives you one of two things: a link or a file.
- Option A: Use the app. The simplest way. You click a button that says ‘Share’ or ‘Publish,’ and the tool simulates the app – within the AI app. ChatGPT and Gemini simulate apps – you have to hit the “preview app” button – and it will turn your “words into code” – an app that you can test in real time.
- Option B: Upload on a site. If you have basic knowledge of how to create and use APIs, integrate basic code on a website, and how to read basic coding language – such as HTML or Javascript – you can make the app live and host it on your own website – even on WordPress or GoHighLevel. That’s right – no cost to hosting your own APP on your own WEBSITE.
WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LAUNCHING A FREE APP ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE – NO CODING OR WEB TEAM NEEDED.
You have now created a functional tool, an asset, in the time it takes to watch half an episode of your favorite show.
The biggest hurdle is just realizing that you don’t need to be a genius to start.
The main takeaway here is clear:
the barrier to entry for building digital tools is gone. You no longer need to pay someone thousands of dollars just to test an idea. You can build a first draft in under an hour.
So, what’s the one super-annoying, repetitive thing in your day that you wish an app could solve? Let me know in the comments – we can brainstorm some ideas during the next workshop!
